The entrance exam for the College of Nursing is the Evolve Reach Nursing Admission Assessment Exam (HESI). The exam is a computer-based test consisting of four modules: Math Skills, Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary, and General Knowledge.

It is recommended that you complete the HESI A2 test well before you plan to submit your nursing application. In the event you do not achieve the required score, time for remediation and retesting is available.

Information Details
Exam Dates:
  • There will be exam dates throughout the year, but the deadline to take your exam will be December 1, 2022.
Cost:
  • The current cost of the exam is $75.00. This fee includes the exam and the SIU proctoring fee.
Test Day Information:
  • There is a four hour time limit for the HESI A2

  • A clear photo ID is required to take the exam.

  • Testing Services is located on the 7th Floor of Morris Library. Maps and parking information.
Registration:
  • You can register for the exam by going this link: Register for your Exam
  • Payment is due at time of registration and fees will be collected online when you register. There are no refunds; you will be allowed one chance to reschedule your exam if you notify Testing Services by email 24 Hours in advance.
Disability Accommodations:
  • Students must provide a copy of their DSS accommodations to Testing Services at least a week in advance of their testing date so that proper arrangements can be made. It is the student's responsibility to give Testing Services this information before they come in to take their exams. You can send this electronically to testing@siu.edu.

  • How Can I prepare for the HESI A2?
  • Do I have to take the HESI A2 on the computer?
    • The Evolve Reach HESI A2 exam is available only on computer.
  • Can I retest if I have not achieve the minimum scores?
    • Students may retest after a 60 day waiting period. You may take the exam 2x during a 12 month period.
  • Can I use my scores from another school?
    • Scores from another school outside of SIU must be less than 2 years old and must be sent directly from that school to SIU. Hand-delivered results will not be accepted.
